About the Site
From a historical perspective, in the time since I finally moved from sub-par free webhosting services, I've completely redone my site about 7 or 8 times. This includes past incarnations of my personal sites which hardly could be called art portfolios (or even "sites"). There were many bad, bad layouts (complete with HTML bastardization and frame abuse) accompanied by bad, bad art, and terrible names, from my first one, Kiorie's Kool Corner (not "Korner" for obvious reasons, and the site itself was mostly scrolling clipart) to Naked Eye (which I often referred to as "Nekkid Eye"). But today, with stable hosting and restored artistic perspective, I've finally made an online art portfolio I can look at with pride.
I could not rely on art communities as my sole source of exposure. Massive communities where one can easily be overlooked - restrictive and unbreathable places where theft is rampant, expected. I would be proudest of my own website, and though it took time, I pursued that vision; I rebuilt it. Like the phoenix arisen from its ashes, my site returned again, renewed.
The name: Originally this site was called Let Me Be With You, subtitled Ai. It came from a song of the same title by Round Table and Nino. When I first remade my site several years ago, I was on a kick for the anime Chobits, for which that song is its theme. Ai ( ) is the Japanese word for love, something pure and good that drives the series as well as myself, so it became a part of the name. Originally there was simply going to be an Ai version of the site, but I referred to it as Ai alone so much that I decided to make that the site's name.
And why did I choose this name? ...Well, what's better than love itself? Pure love, untouched and untainted by outside feelings. A well and good thing to desire.
The theme: The simplest and most fun layout idea I had involved a children's theme - a return to innocence. Fun, gentle, simple.
